Morocco has a very long tradition of weaving some of the finest rugs in the world. These superb rugs have been woven since the 8th century, when the Berber tribes settled in Morocco. For more than a thousand years, tribal women have hand-knotted rugs from the wool of the sheep they raise atop the Atlas Mountains. Even today, the tribes live in the mountains, and the skill is passed down from mother to daughter
